TORUKU is an innovative music app for Android, designed and developed by Florian Mayer and Hiroshi Matoba. Florian and I both shared a keen interest in exploring unique methods of music creation, particularly through the use of rotating systems. Through extensive discussions over time, we conceived the concept of integrating a circular system into three different scales or layers of music composition: synth, loop, and song. The app allows users to seamlessly zoom in and out between these three layers, enabling them to manipulate sound through various functionalities. They can edit wavetables to generate unique sounds in the synth layer, create loops using a versatile curve feature, and compose songs by arranging the loops they have created. Each layer features a circular-shaped user interface, tailored to suit the specific characteristics of composition within each scale. TORUKU offers an intuitive and immersive experience for music creation, empowering users to explore the potential of circular systems in their musical endeavors.
